DECOMPRESSION THERAPY

Decompression therapy is a type of traction used to gently stretch the spine. This in turn relieves the pain and helps  restore function. Stretching and relaxing the spine intermittently in a controlled manner creates a negative pressure within the disc. This helps with fluid exchange within the central part of the disc which brings essential nutrients and hydration into these areas to assist in healing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

  • What do I bring to my evaluation?
To determine if you are a candidate for decompression we first sit down with you and have a full consultation where we go over your present condition, look at your past history, review your medications, and determine if any of your previous surgeries are affecting your condition. We then review your X-rays and MRI’s.
  • How long does it take to complete treatment?
Laser and Decompression done in the same visit will take 25 minutes. Shockwave Treatment will add another 15 minutes to your visit.
  • Who is NOT a candidate?
Individuals that are pregnant, have cancer, infection, or acute fractures of the spine, osteoporosis, significant spondylolisthesis, screws, plates, cages and artificial discs should not seek spinal decompression.
  • Can Spinal Decompression be used for patients who have had a spinal injury?
Spinal decompression therapy can help some people with back pain after certain minimally invasive spinal surgery who have not been left with an unstable spine. You must wait six months after your last surgery.
